Dr. Magrath is a board certified ophthalmologist. He enjoys taking care of patients with any and all eye conditions. In addition to general eye conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, and diabetes, Dr. Magrath has specialized training in cancers in and around the eye, eyelids, and orbit. In fact, he is the only physician in South Carolina with fellowship training specifically in kids and adults with cancers in and around the eye.

A native of South Carolina, Dr. Magrath completed medical school and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. While at MUSC he was awarded the Program Director’s Award, given to the resident who most exemplifies the qualities of a great physician. Following his training at MUSC, he completed two years of specialized training in tumors and cancers in and around the eyes of children and adults. The fellowship was completed under Drs. Jerry and Carol Shields at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Magrath and his team focus on perfection at all aspects of their patient’s care. He makes himself personally available to all of his patients and prospective patients at any time, with the primary goal to provide the absolute best care to his patients. A meticulous surgeon, Dr. Magrath takes great care to provide the safest, most advanced surgical procedures utilizing a team approach with other departments at the Medical University. This approach gives patients a highly competent and committed team to fight with them against these serious diseases.

In addition to his devotion for providing his patients the highest quality of clinical care, Dr. Magrath devotes a portion of his time to clinical research to improve patient care in the future. Dr. Magrath is active in clinical trials of new treatments of eye conditions, particularly cancers around the eye. He is also active in research to improve diagnosis and monitoring of these conditions.

Overall, Dr. Magrath is a warm, knowledgeable, meticulous physician surrounded by a wonderful team. He is happy and excited to provide eye care for all patients in a team environment focused on providing excellent care.
