Awake Craniotomy and Tumor Resection

Abhay Varma, M.D., MUSC Health neurosurgeon at the Hollings Cancer Center, discusses the awake craniotomy and tumor resection procedure. The biggest advantage of this procedure is that it offers the patient maximal safe resection of the tumor field without causing a new significant neurological deficit. The main objective of this technique is to provide the maximum benefit to the patient, with the least amount of risk.
