Novel Drug Therapy in Stroke Treatment

Ali Alawieh, an M.D./Ph.D. candidate at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), discusses the findings of a May 16 Science Translational Medicine article he co-authored with Stephen Tomlinson, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and other researchers at MUSC about complement inhibition and stroke. In the article, they describe a novel drug therapy that could help prevent destruction of salvageable neurons after stroke and one day expand the treatments open to patients after stroke.

Read more about their findings in an article in Progressnotes, MUSC’s medical magazine.
